The Department of Commerce announced on  August 3 it has launched an interactive map indicating the project locations of communities and recipients funded by the 2009  American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Five agencies of the Department of Commerce (NTIA, EDA, NIST, NOAA and the U.S. Census Bureau) received a total of $7.9 billion for U.S. job creation and economic growth as part of the historic economic stimulus bill signed by President Obama in February, 2009.

The map also includes data from the USDA and HUD Recovery Web sites. (DOC Recovery Map)

About the DOC Recovery  Projects Map

The USDA ARRA Projects Map allows the American Public to find and view information about Recovery Act projects in web-based map display. The map was created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to increase transparency and accountability of federal spending by providing the public with additional methods of accessing project information.

The map allows the public to click on individual projects and access specific project information and comment blogs.

Project Data

The project data displayed on the map is provided by the individual agencies within participating departments and displays agency funding which includes commitments, obligations, and disbursements.  The markers are placed on the map based on the zip code of the recipient or award and therefore represent approximate locations. Map markers representing funding for farm operating loans or loans to individuals have been aggregated at the state or county level and do not indicate the location of specific loans.

The map viewer is designed to work in all major web browsers which support full Google Maps functionality.  Performance is optimal on those browsers and computer systems that are able to perform javascript operations quickly (e.g., Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari).  If JavaScript is turned off, the map viewer will not be available; however, all map data can be viewed in the accompanying Map Data page.
