BLS Overview of the OES In Congressional testimony, BLS provided a good overview of the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey, which provides the most detailed examination of occupational data of all Federal surveys, and is the most important source underlying employment projections. May 2012 Detailed Occupational Data The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released its latest data from the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey, which supplies employment and wage information for more occupations (821) than any other Federal source. It includes 24 newly defined occupations, five of which employed more than 100,000 workers in May 2012: computer network specialists; nurse practitioners; computer network architects; Web developers; and phlebotomists (listed in order by size). 2011 OES data issued BLS has released the 2011 annual Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) news release. The OES data have the greatest occupational detail of all Federal employment surveys, and the OES is also one of the principal sources for the employment projections data.
