Long-Term NAEP Test Score Trends

On June 27 at 11:30 a.m. EST, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) will release The Nation’s Report Card: Trends in Academic Progress. When released, it will be available at the NCES Web site.

A panel of education experts will simultaneously discuss the results in a live webinar beginning at 11:30 a.m. EST. To register, go to Between the Trend Lines: Four Decades of NAEP Reading and Math.

Since the 1970s, NAEP has monitored the academic performance of 9-, 13-, and 17-year old students with what have become known as the long-term trend assessments. Four decades of results offer an extended view of student achievement in reading and mathematics. Results in this report are based on the most recent performance of more than 50,000 public and private school students who, by their participation, have contributed to our understanding of the nation’s academic achievement. Note that these NAEP tests results, which are based on selected ages, are separate from another NAEP series, which monitors performance for grades 4, 8, and 12.

NAEP is a product of the National Center for Education Statistics at the Institute of Education Sciences, part of the U.S. Department of Education. The National Assessment Governing Board sets policy for NAEP.
